India's Defence Industry

Liberalization policies of Government of India, global defence industry trends and geo political factors have made Indian Defence Sector extremely attractive for investment. The sector has diversified through its wide range of products, not only for defence purposes but also for the civilian markets. Indian defence industry is poised to enter the global market with dual use defence products.

The Indian Defence Sector is now reaping the benefits of private sector participation. The private sector has proven itself in terms of design, innovation in product technology and system integration. Also the manufacturing sector has reached benchmarking standards. The most successful ventures in recent times have been the consequence of defence PSUs (DPSUs) and private entities coming together.

Today India is among the top ten countries in terms of defence expenditure. As per the Budget Estimates (BE) proposed for the year 2011-12, the total defence expenditure of Central government is Rs 1, 64,415.49 crore, while it was Rs. 1, 51,581.69 crore in the previous year. India's presence on the global map of the defence sector is felt very widely.

The DEFEXPO INDIA 2012, would be a big step in bringing the best in defence sector together. With foreign participation and a whole lot of machinery and equipment on display, this might prove to be the one big business opportunity the sector has ever known.
